Abstract: This exploratory study aims to analyze the role of Social Responsibility Accounting (SRA) as a transformative accounting practice that contributes to promoting social change. The study examines the reality of applying this accounting approach in Libyan banks operating in the Wadi Al-Shati region and the city of Benghazi. It is based on the premise that contemporary accounting is no longer limited to recording financial transactions and preparing financial statements; rather, it has evolved into a strategic tool capable of strengthening trust between financial institutions and society, thereby supporting social and economic stability and contributing to sustainable development. The study adopts the descriptive–analytical method and is supported by a field investigation conducted through a structured questionnaire distributed to a purposive sample of employees working in the banking sector. The questionnaire covered several dimensions, including the level of managerial awareness of the concept of social responsibility accounting, the role of institutional and legislative frameworks in supporting its implementation, and the main challenges that hinder the adoption of such practices within banks ,The findings reveal that bank management demonstrates a moderate level of awareness regarding the importance of social responsibility accounting and its potential role in strengthening the relationship between banks and the community. However, this awareness has not yet been fully translated into systematic and organized practices within banking institutions. The results also indicate the presence of several obstacles that limit the effective application of social responsibility accounting, most notably the weakness of the supporting legislative and institutional frameworks, limited specialized training programs, insufficient technological infrastructure, and a lack of regulatory flexibility,In light of these findings, the study recommends enhancing managerial awareness of social responsibility accounting, developing supportive legislative frameworks, strengthening professional training for banking staff, and establishing specialized units dedicated to social accounting within banks. Such measures would contribute to reinforcing the role of banks as socially responsible institutions and active partners in community development rather than merely financial entities.
