The Global South is increasingly challenging Western dominance and Eurocentric epistemologies. In Algeria, English departments, particularly undergraduate Civilization modules, remain heavily shaped by Western frameworks, often reproducing inherited pedagogies disconnected from local realities. This paper argues for epistemic decolonization, emphasizing the need to rethink educational philosophies, curriculum content, and teaching approaches. Drawing on Walter Mignolo’s concept of “Border Thinking,” it advocates a dialogical approach that negotiates between Western and local epistemologies. By positioning Civilization modules as sites for decolonial engagement, the paper emphasizes that curriculum designers are invited to to foster critical thinking, cultural awareness, and socially relevant, pluriversal knowledge aligned with Algeria’s evolving local and global contexts.
