Résumé

It is still worth recalling the longevity of the conflict - unprecedented in modern history - between Palestinians and Israelis. It is now 76 years old, and international public opinion is correct: its nature is neither ethnic, nor messianic religious, nor any less civilizational; it is clearly colonial. Everyone knows the mantra of the virgin and wild land to clear. Colonial literature remains infected. As for Palestine, Ilan Pappe reminds us, “Outside of Israel, in particular in the United States, the assumption that the promise land was empty, desolate, and barren before the arrival of Zionism is still alive and kicking, and is therefore worth attending to.” In this essay, we try to trace the idea of two sovereign states: Palestinian and Israeli, back to a twenty-year period. We are using two materials here: the philosophy of the Enlightenment and contemporary media coverage of the conflict.
