Abstract
• Abstract This study investigates the political and strategic effects of American drone strikes’ use on its national security in its course of counterterrorism. It uses the necropolitic theory as a lens of American crucial resort to these military tools. Thus, qualitative and quantitative approaches are used to explain the political and strategic effects that drone strikes engendered to American national security. It aims to examine the effectiveness of drone strikes in eliminating the terrorist threat. The findings reveal that despite that the US succeeds in killing key terrorist leaders that shaped a threat to its security; the issue of terrorism is persisting. The use of drones distorts American image for the killing of innocents fueling anti-Americanism. It encourages their proliferation that leads to international insecurity and breaches the International Law. • الملخص: هذه الدراسة تبحث التأثيرات السياسية والاستراتيجية لاستخدام الطائرات بدون طيار في مكافحة الإرهاب على الأمن القومي الأمريكي. وتعتمد على نظرية "المقبرة" لفهم دوافع الولايات المتحدة في تبني هذه الأدوات العسكرية. وتستخدم الدراسة مناهج نوعية وكمية لتحليل التأثيرات السياسية والاستراتيجية التي تترتب على الضربات الجوية بدون طيار.وتهدف الدراسة إلى تقييم مدى فعالية هذه الضربات في القضاء على التهديدات الإرهابية. وتظهر النتائج أنه رغم نجاح الولايات المتحدة في تصفية قادة إرهابيين بارزين كانوا يشكلون تهديدًا لأمنها، فإن مشكلة الإرهاب لا تزال قائمة. إن استخدام الطائرات بدون طيار يشوه صورة الولايات المتحدة بسبب استهداف الأبرياء، مما يعزز المشاعر المعادية لها. كما أن تشجيع انتشار هذه التقنية يساهم في انعدام الأمن الدولي وانتهاك القانون الدولي.
