This study attempts to analyze Arab-Western cultural relations in light of the triad of independence, dependency, and the clash of civilizations. It examines issues of Westernization, cultural dependency, civilizational conflict, and cultural security, while also proposing mechanisms and alternatives that Arab states can rely on to preserve their cultural independence and protect their cultural security amidst the growing policies of Westernization and cultural invasion. The study concludes that protecting Arab cultural and civilizational identity in the face of current geocultural challenges fundamentally requires a comprehensive and integrated strategic framework. This framework should be based on the combined efforts of official governmental bodies and cultural and social institutions, as well as the adoption of a carefully considered policy of openness to the West and the global system. It should also strive to achieve a balance between authenticity and modernity, and to adopt an authentic identity with contemporary standards.
Cultural security; Dependency; Cultural identity; Clash of civilizations.
