Abstract:The right to life is one of the most fundamental human rights, serving as the basis for the enjoyment of all other rights. Algerian law grants this right a special status by ensuring its protection through criminal legislation. This paper examines the extent and mechanisms of criminal protection of the right to life under the Algerian law. It highlights the legal framework that criminalizes acts such as abortion, intentional and unintentional homicide, assisted suicide, and discusses the controversial position of capital punishment. The study also explores the constitutional and international sources that reinforce this protection. The analysis concludes that while Algerian law provides strong safeguards for the right to life, challenges remain regarding the balance between absolute protection and exceptional legal limitations
