Authors : Zellouma Ahmed .

Abstract

This research paper investigates the impact of implementing language games on students' motivation and retention in higher-education English language classrooms. It explores how incorporating interactive language games with adult learners can increase classroom engagement and knowledge retention, and decrease boredom and anxiety. The study is grounded in theories of adult learning and communicative language teaching. A mixed-methods approach was used, including questionnaires for teachers and students, phonetic tests, and long-term classroom observations to examine students’ engagement and interaction. The findings suggest that well-designed language games positively influence adult learners’ motivation, engagement, and retention, supporting their use as an effective pedagogical tool in higher-education contexts.
