This study addresses the issue of water security in the Lake Chad Basin as a representative model of the interaction between environmental, political, and security factors within the African hydro-political complex. The severe decline in the lake’s resources—caused by climate change, human pressures, and mismanagement—has led to the escalation of local and regional conflicts and the rise of armed group activities. The study adopts a composite analytical approach that combines the Environmental–Political framework with the concept of the Hydro-Political Complex to examine the dynamics of water security in the region. It concludes that addressing the Lake Chad crisis requires reconstructing regional water governance and strengthening environmental–security integration as a pathway toward achieving stability and peace in the African Sahel region.
