This study aims to examine the significance of open spaces in the novel Departure (Rahîl) by Mohamed Al-Eid Bahlouli, focusing on the symbolic and existential dimensions of space in the narrative, and linking it to Quranic references related to proximity, distance, movement, and destiny. The research demonstrates that open space is not merely a geographical setting for events, but a field of imagination and memory, a space for self-revelation, and an arena of disorientation and transformation, reflecting the psychological structure of the characters. Verses from Surah Saba (34:51–53), Qaf (50:41), and Yunus (10:22) are invoked to illustrate the dichotomies of proximity/distance, security/danger, and awareness/movement, highlighting how the Quranic text adds spiritual dimensions to the symbolic reading of the novel. The study concludes that open space represents a central semiotic structure in the text, where characters interact with both external space and internal revelation, in a dual movement between geographic departure and existential transformation.
