Exploration Of Novice Efl Teachers’ Practices In The Ai Era: Insights Into Innovative Teaching Models At Higher Education

Authors : Abid Zineb .

Abstract

Living in the modern era of technological development, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) becomes necessary among scholars, pedagogues and tutors. At higher education, the need to integrate novice models and practices of instruction is highly recommended to fulfill the students’ needs and curricula objectives. However, standing in front of these requirements, EFL teachers may encounter some obstacles associated to institutional or pedagogical resources. The present study aims to describe how artificial intelligence imposes adaptations of models and practices on EFL tutors and their impacts on learners’ achievements. It also attempts to highlight major difficulties and challenges associated with AI tools usage. For these purposes, the study falls into the qualitative descriptive type when a questionnaire is designed through Google forms and consists of fourteen (14) questions administered online to the EFL tutors at higher education across multiple universities during the current academic year. The overall findings demonstrated prominently the use of particular technological tools for communication and interaction with learners such as: Google meet Moodle platform, padlet and kahoot in their classroom. However, the results indicated also that EFL instruction faces some difficulties regarding the integration of artificial intelligence devices and tools inside higher education institutions. Yet, the findings may well contribute with insights into EFL instruction during the AI era and how the latter crosses its path into pedagogical innovation. They also highlight the need for adaptation of novel models to facilitate knowledge transmission, interpretation and production as very significant steps in EFL classrooms.
