In an era of digital financial transformation, cryptocurrencies stand out as a powerful innovation that redefines how value is stored and transferred. This paper explores their status through the lens of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, focusing on the preservation of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth. While these digital assets offer advantages like decentralization and financial inclusion, they also pose serious concerns, including volatility, misuse in illicit activities, and legal ambiguity. Algerian law currently prohibits cryptocurrencies due to their potential risks, reflecting a preventive legal stance. The study employs an inductive and purpose-oriented methodology to weigh these tensions. Rather than a blanket ruling, it proposes a conditional permissibility rooted in ethical safeguards and Shariah objectives. This balanced approach aims to embrace financial innovation without compromising social order or moral principles. The paper ultimately calls for a forward-thinking legal framework that supports responsible use of digital currencies in harmony with Islamic values and national regulations.
