This paper investigates the growing strategic relevance of irregular migration in shaping Algeria’s community security framework. Far from being a peripheral issue, irregular migration has emerged as a central variable influenced by regional instability across the Maghreb and the Sahel. The study argues that Algeria’s internal security dynamics are increasingly shaped by transnational threats—ranging from organized crime and cross-border terrorism to mounting pressure on public health and social services. The analysis begins by establishing the conceptual and theoretical foundations of irregular migration and community security, highlighting how migratory flows have become a structuring force in Algeria’s security discourse. It then examines the regional trajectories of migration, particularly through Algeria’s southern and eastern borders, and assesses their impact on both security and humanitarian conditions. The paper critically evaluates Algeria’s policy responses, including border control strategies, legal instruments, and humanitarian initiatives. It emphasizes the need for a multidimensional approach that reconciles security imperatives with human rights obligations. Ultimately, the study contends that irregular migration must be addressed not as a temporary challenge but as a strategic determinant in the architecture of Algerian community security—demanding integrated, foirard-looking policies that reflect the complexity of the issue.
