Manufacturing Industries in China exhibited an anticipated trend from 2010 to 2022: the rollout of digital transformation resulted in a significant increase in general employment. Our analysis learns of a growth trend and a shift in capabilities across listed firms. The number of highly skilled and moderately to highly skilled workforce rose, whereas the number of low- and moderately skilled roles plummeted. In particular, digitalization has facilitated employment opportunities in financial accounting, product sales, and research and development (R&D). The increase in size results from the advantages gained from producing on more acres and improving efficiency. Remarkably, substituting a low-skilled workforce with digital technology did not impede employment. Moreover, due to robust governance, competitive industries, and less favorable marketplaces, enterprises were driven to enhance their workforce through digitalization. These findings provide insight into the intricate relationship between digitalization and workforce employment in China's manufacturing sector.
