Europe is currently one of the most sought-after destinations for migrants worldwide, driven by numerous intertwined and complex factors that make migration a phenomenon with economic, social, political, and cultural dimensions. Over time, migration has undergone contradictory phases, prompting shifts in policies that reflect how migrants are perceived by broad segments of European societies. Consequently, migration has become a central topic of concern across the continent, shaped by diverse perspectives. These range from welcoming migrants as contributors to economic development and cultural diversity to viewing them as economic and security threats, which sometimes fuels hate speech in host communities. This reality necessitates the adoption of appropriate measures to strike a balance between respecting national sovereignty and meeting labor market needs, and fulfilling the humanitarian responsibilities toward refugees and migrants.
