The Art Of Prose In Modern Algerian Literature: Between Eloquence And Evidence (the Genre Of Maqama In The Works Of Sheikh Muhammad Al-bashir Al-ibrahimi As A Model)

Authors : Nacera Alioua .

Abstract

One of the most prominent forms that contributed to enriching Algerian literature and highlighting its unique aesthetic and intellectual identity was artistic prose. It provided a fertile space for the manifestation of literary talent and its interaction with religious, social, and political issues. The Maqama is a prose genre that characterized Algerian literature, which, in many of its texts, adopted a reformist and educational tone to the degree that it reached its peak in the writings of Sheikh Muhammad al-Bashir al-Ibrahimi, one of the leading figures of the Renaissance and reform movement in Algeria. The present article aims to shed light on artistic prose in Algerian literature through the study of al-Ibrahimi's Maqamat; it examines their artistic, semantic, and symbolic dimensions and highlights the intellectual and reformist stances they unfold, which reflect the writer's vision in resisting colonialism and preserving the Arab-Islamic identity.
