Social Representations Of The Narcissistic Husband Among Clinical Psychology Students (among Master's Students In Clinical Psychology)

Authors : Guelai Tsouria Amel .

Abstract

This study investigated the social representations of the "narcissistic spouse" among a sample of 34 female second-year master's students in clinical psychology at the University of Ain Temouchent by employing a descriptive approach, where the research utilized the free association method, and the collected data were processed via the EVOC software for lexical analysis. The results revealed a unanimously negative attitude towards the narcissistic spouse, as the structure of these social representations featured a central core composed of the traits selfish, controlling, and possessive, while the peripheral system contained a single primary element—violence—and several secondary elements, including deceitfulness, spousal neglect, aversion to criticism, complexity, and nervousness, where the comparative analysis demonstrated a partial correspondence with the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for narcissistic personality disorder, with one direct match in the central core (arrogance/grandiosity) and two in the peripheral system (exploitativeness and lack of empathy).
