This article offers a rigorous philosophical examination of Emmanuel Levinas’s project, which reshaped Western thought by shifting its center from ontology to ethics and from the question of being to that of responsibility. Beginning with the existential and intellectual crisis produced by modernity, the study shows how Levinas redefined the human as a moral being grounded not in knowledge or freedom but in openness to Alterity—the Other who grants meaning to existence. For "Levinas", responsibility is not a voluntary act but an urgent call preceding every choice, embodied in the notions of the face, hospitality, and justice as renewed structures of human life. Although his project encounters tensions between the ethical infinite and political limits, it remains a radical effort to rescue humanity from modern alienation and to restore philosophy as a responsible human endeavor in a world where meaning continues to erode, for contemporary philosophical and ethical reflection today.
