This study aims to explore Ibn Rushd’s philosophy of interpretation and its significance in understanding the texts of Islamic law. It does so by outlining the foundations of his position from a philosophical perspective and examining their impact on Arab-Islamic thought. The research analyzes a set of ideas he expressed on the issue of interpretation, as presented in several of his works that embody his intellectual project and gained renown both in the East and the West, particularly his well-known book Decisive Treatise on the Relationship Between Philosophy and Sharia and Their Connection. This work was written in response to the attacks launched by many jurists of his time against philosophy and philosophers. The study also seeks to highlight the strengths of Ibn Rushd’s thought in his advocacy for granting greater freedom to reason in understanding Islamic law, thereby laying the foundations for the unity of philosophical truth and religious truth. He maintained that truth does not contradict truth; rather, it reinforces and testifies to it.
