During my research at the Archives of Aix-en-Provence (ANOM), I consulted several unpublished reports shedding light on the life of Ahmed Bey and his stubborn resistance against colonial conquest. These documents allow us to lift the veil on certain obscure aspects of his journey: His childhood and education: Born into the prestigious Kouloughli family, what was the genesis of this man? What kind of education—both religious and military—did he receive to become the future defender of Constantine? His stance toward the occupier: Far from a quick surrender, Ahmed Bey maintained an uncompromising line of conduct. How did he structure his defense against the repeated assaults of the French army? The role of the Sublime Porte: What was the actual position of the Ottoman Empire? Was it a matter of concrete support or merely diplomatic recognition without effective resources? His relationship with Emir Abdelkader: This remains one of the most complex points. Between a rivalry over legitimacy and the necessity of a common front, how did these two pillars of Algerian resistance coexist? Through the analysis of these reports and supporting texts, we have attempted to reconstruct the history of this central figure of Algerian resistance
