Hard Power Theory In Contemporary International Wars: An Analysis Of The Russian–ukrainian War

Authors : Kebaili Ayacha .

Abstract

This study examines the evolution of power as an instrument in international conflicts, examining its transformation from hard power to soft power, and the subsequent revival of its traditional form in the contemporary world, particularly with the onset of the Russian war on Ukraine. It also seeks to describe, interpret, and critically assess the intellectual positions of the realist perspective that explains international conflicts based on the inherently evil nature of human beings, and to explore the relationship between these foundations and the exercise of power in inter-state relations. The study aims to provide a theoretical analysis of the motivations behind the revival of hard power and the current international circumstances surrounding it. It also seeks to identify Russia’s reasons and objectives for entering this war, as well as the domestic and international actors involved. Moreover, the research analyzes Russia’s rational discourse and aims to draw theoretical conclusions necessary for reconsidering power equilibrium
