Abstract: The topic of traditional, non-renewable energy represented by fossil fuels and their negative impacts on the environment on planet Earth is one of the most critical topics of our era, if not the most critical. This is especially true given the conflicting interests among world nations between developed countries on one hand and developing countries on the other as well as between environmental advocates striving to curb the greed of capital owners for the sake of preserving the environment, and economic stakeholders seeking profit by any means, even if it means destroying entire ecosystems. This has led to significant difficulty in finding effective solutions that satisfy all parties, particularly with the frequent changes in politicians, presidents, and state rulers, coupled with social and economic pressures from populations seeking prosperity. Additionally, it has caused a division within the scientific community in general, and the legal community in particular, regarding the effects of pollution caused by fossil fuels and how to protect the environment from this pollution and its consequences. There is also debate on how to achieve this through binding legal texts and their practical implementation on the ground. Therefore, this article presents a study addressing this sensitive and complex issue simultaneously, exploring the legal tools for protecting the environment from pollution caused by fossil fuels.
