This research project meticulously investigates the profound paradigm shift currently underway in literary authority, transitioning from the traditional human author to the burgeoning influence of intelligent algorithms. It posits that Roland Barthes’s seminal concept of the “death of the author,” a cornerstone of post-structuralist thought, is now being realized quite literally in the contemporary age of artificial intelligence. This study synthesizes literary theory and digital humanities to advance a central argument: the metaphorical “pen” of authorship is no longer held by a human alone. Instead, it is increasingly distributed within a complex “cognitive assemblage” that intricately intertwines human intention, sophisticated algorithmic processes, the inherited knowledge embedded in training data, and the interpretive engagement of the reader. Through a robust methodology encompassing theoretical synthesis and a detailed comparative textual analysis of AI-generated and human-authored works, this research endeavors to comprehensively map this evolving literary landscape.
