English for Specific Purposes (ESP) plays a vital role in preparing learners to use English effectively in professional, academic, and technical contexts. Fields such as medicine, engineering, and aviation require not only general language proficiency but also mastery of specialised terminology and communication patterns. Traditional approaches to ESP teaching, while valuable, often face challenges in addressing learners’ diverse needs and adapting to rapidly changing professional requirements. Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) provide new opportunities to enhance ESP instruction. AI-powered tools, including chatbots, generative AI, and language processing applications, can support learners through personalised feedback, adaptive practice, and exposure to authentic domain-specific materials. These technologies also assist instructors in curriculum design and needs analysis by processing learner data and identifying areas for targeted support. While the integration of AI raises important considerations such as data privacy, ethical use, and potential bias, its contribution to more flexible and effective ESP teaching is undeniable. AI stands as a promising ally in bridging the gap between language learning and professional expertise.
