This article provides a definition and Arabic translation of the American Anthropological Association's (AAA) Statement on Research Ethics, framing it as a guiding and educational document rather than a punitive one, aiming to establish the ethical foundations that govern anthropological research. The article reviews the historical development of the statement, which emerged in response to major ethical crises such as "Project Camelot" in the 1960s, and the involvement of some anthropologists in military programs after the events of September 11. It further traces how the code of ethics evolved from a strict prohibition of covert research in 1971 to a more flexible framework, culminating in its current 2012 version. The latest version is centered on seven core principles, most notably "Do No Harm," "Be Open and Honest," and "Obtain Informed Consent." These principles are underpinned by broader concepts such as beneficence, respect for persons, justice, and cultural sensitivity. The statement stresses that anthropological research is a social enterprise requiring awareness of power imbalances and a profound responsibility towards participants. The article aims to provide this crucial ethical framework to the Arab anthropological community to foster discussions on the ethics of research practice in their local contexts.
