ملخص: تعددت الكتابات والملاحظات التي دونت عن الجزائر عموما وعن منطقة الأوراس على وجه الخصوص منذ عهود بعيدة، فشملت أوصافا دقيقة للجغرافيا والتاريخ وأصل الساكنة والعادات والتقاليد وأنماط العيش، وغيرها من الجوانب التي أسهمت في تشكيل صورة أولية عن المنطقة. وقد برز في هذا الإطار ما كتبه ابن خلدون، وما سجله الرحالة والمغامرون مثل الإدريسي والبكري وغيرهما، ثم ما أضافه المستشرقون لاحقا على غرار إميل ماسكوريه وتيريز ريفيير وماتيا غودري، الذين حاولوا بدورهم فهم البنية الاجتماعية والثقافية للأوراس. غير أن العمل المونوغرافي الضخم والثري الذي أنجزه العقيد دولارتيق حول منطقة الأوراس سنة 1904 إبان الفترة الاستعمارية الفرنسية، شكل منعطفا مهما في فهم تركيبة منطقة الاوراس الجغرافية والسكانية، إذ جاء بمثابة مسح شامل ودقيق لتاريخ المنطقة وجغرافيتها وأوجه تفاعل الإنسان الأوراسي مع محيطه الطبيعي والاجتماعي. ومن خلال هذه الورقة البحثية حاولنا بناء صورة معمقة عن حياة إنسان منطقة أحمر خدو كما عرضها دولارتيق، بالاعتماد على الوصف والإحصاء والتحليل لفهم ملامح المجتمع المحلي آنذاك. Abstract: Numerous writings and observations have been recorded about Algeria in general and the Aurès region in particular since ancient times. These accounts offered precise descriptions of geography, history, the origins of the population, customs, traditions, and ways of life, among other aspects that contributed to forming an initial image of the region. Prominent among these were the works of Ibn Khaldun, as well as the travel narratives of explorers such as al-Idrisi, al-Bakri, and others. Later, Orientalists like Émile Masqueray, Thérèse Rivière, and Mathieu Gaudry enriched this corpus through their attempts to understand the social and cultural structure of the Aurès. However, the large and rich monographic work produced by Colonel Doutté in 1904 during the French colonial period marked an important turning point in the understanding of the geographical and demographic composition of the Aurès. His work constituted a comprehensive and meticulous survey of the region’s history, geography, and the various ways in which the Aurès inhabitant interacted with his natural and social environment. In this research paper, we sought to construct a detailed portrayal of the life of the people of Aḥmar Khadou as presented by Doutté, relying on description, statistical data, and analytical interpretation to shed light on the characteristics of the local society at that time.
