Applying Modern Actuarial Models To Improve Decision-making Efficiency In The Algerian Insurance Sector

Authors : Messai Bilal . Yahiaoui Nacera .

Abstract

This study examines the role of modern actuarial models as a decision-support tool in the Algerian insurance sector. Using a qualitative-analytical methodology, the research highlights the growing importance of actuarial modeling in improving risk assessment, pricing accuracy, solvency evaluation, and long-term strategic planning. The paper reviews the structure of the Algerian insurance market, identifies key institutional and operational challenges—such as the shortage of qualified actuaries and limited digital infrastructure—and compares Algeria’s position with regional peers like Morocco and South Africa. The findings indicate that the integration of modern actuarial techniques could enhance decision-making efficiency, reduce financial volatility, and align the Algerian insurance industry with international regulatory frameworks such as Solvency II. Policy recommendations include developing actuarial education programs, promoting data standardization, adopting risk-based supervision, and reinforcing institutional governance.
