Abstract
This research paper aims to shed light on the actual situation of small and medium-sized enterprises in Algeria. In order to achieve the research objective, an analytical study was conducted using the official statistics of SMEs provided by the ministry of industry and Pharmaceutical production. In addition, this paper presents the different support facilities provided by the government for SMES in Algeria. The present research shows the evolution of the population of SMEs from 2020 to the end of 2022, and their contribution to employment, economy diversification and value added creation. Based on the result of the data analysis this study makes a SWOT analysis to provide a new comprehensive understanding of how SMEs contribute to the economic development in Algeria and what limits their role in economy development.
