For more than two decades, the international economic environment has been marked by the need to transition to a knowledge-based economy, and countries' ability to integrate the pillars of this economy is a key determinant of their competitiveness. In its quest for diversification and reduction of its heavy dependence on hydrocarbons, Algeria faces significant structural challenges. Our objective is to determine Algeria's position in the EFC and to identify the factors behind the performance gaps with emerging and advanced economies. For the purposes of our research, we used a comparative approach, drawing on international indicators (KEI, GII, HDI, OECD indicators) and an integrated analysis grid covering the pillars of the knowledge-based economy, namely education, R&D, ICT and institutions. The results show significant progress in human capital and ICT infrastructure, but confirm a persistent lag in innovation, R&D and institutional governance, which limits Algeria's economic attractiveness and competitiveness .
