This article addresses the phenomenon of international competition in Africa within a new global context characterized by escalating conflicts among major powers, particularly in the aftermath of the Russian Ukrainian war. The research aims to analyze the strategic options available to African countries to avoid being drawn into international conflicts, focusing on the concepts of neutrality and alignment in international relations. The significance of the study stems from its timely examination of how international rivalry affects Africa as a geopolitical actor. The researcher adopted a comparative analytical approach, drawing on real-life examples of high-level visits by leaders from both the West and the East to the continent during 2022. The researcher concluded that positive neutrality could represent an opportunity for Africa to maintain its sovereignty and avoid blind alignment, recommending the enhancement of intra-African cooperation to strengthen the continent’s position against external pressures.
