Islamic Fintech: Development Challenges And Growth Opportunities In The Digital Age

Authors : Louafi Assia .

Abstract

Islamic fintech represents one of the most significant manifestations of digital transformation in the Islamic financial sector, uniquely blending technological innovation with Shariah-compliant principles to deliver novel financial services. This study aims to examine the current state of Islamic fintech by reviewing leading platforms that leverage advanced technologies—such as blockchain and artificial intelligence—and by highlighting the regulatory, legal, and Shariah-related challenges confronting this dynamic sector. The research adopts an analytical methodology grounded in a comprehensive literature review and real-world case studies. Findings reveal that Islamic fintech holds substantial potential to enhance financial inclusion and support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). However, it faces critical obstacles, including the absence of a unified regulatory and Shariah framework, a shortage of qualified professionals, and high innovation costs. Based on these insights, the study proposes practical recommendations to foster a supportive ecosystem for Islamic fintech, notably the establishment of internationally harmonized Shariah standards, increased investment in digital infrastructure, and the development of specialized human capital.
