Authors : Belloufa Larbi . Nebbou Abdelkader .

Abstract

The study highlights the transformative exchanges that redefined Nigeria’s spiritual landscape during the formative period from 1914 to 1980. It traces the spread of Islam and Christianity, tracks their demographic shifts, and analyzes the attitudes and responses of indigenous religions to the rise of these Abrahamic faiths. Furthermore, the paper sheds light on instances of resistance, adaptation, and syncretism, illustrating the resilience and dynamic nature of Nigeria’s religious landscape. Drawing on archival sources and historical documents, the study seeks to examine the overall context in which these faiths emerged, fundamentally deciphering the multifaceted interactions that shaped religious identity and practice in Nigeria during this era.
