Mouloud Feraoun's novel "The Son of the Poor" offers an in-depth exploration of life in the village of Ighil Nezman, clearly depicting the profound impact of harsh social conditions and a harsh environment on individuals. These conditions generate numerous crises, along with internal and external conflicts. The novel embodies the generational struggle within society: between young and old, between the first generation and the next. This struggle has become a struggle within the self and the individual. The rebellion of this younger generation is depicted as rooted in particular circumstances. For Amr Namour, this challenge is shaped by his exposure to the French educational system and his mixed heritage as the son of a French mother, Marie, and a Kabyle father, Amr Oukaci. For Dahbia, it is her conversion to Christianity and her upbringing by Christian missionaries in the village of Ait Ouaddou, and this essay will explore the parasitic self.
