This article investigates Tony Blair’s journey of rhetorical metamorphosis, from presenting military interventions as humanitarian efforts, to being labelled a “warmonger”, and finally to promoting conflict resolution as a “peace advocate”. The study uses Critical Discourse Analysis of a selection of Blair’s public statements and interventions, reflecting his career from 1999 through 2020, to examine how this shift in presentation reveals broader patterns of diplomatic continuity in lieu of an actual transformation. This paper argues that Blair, still the interventionist, employs rhetoric that reframes elite agreements that typically exclude broader publics as popular progress towards peace. Thus “peace deals” like the 2020 Abraham Accords which were brokered by political elites, function as extensions of his earlier interventions, now camouflaged under the language of peace. This analysis ultimately contends that Blair’s post-Iraq diplomatic discourse represents a linguistic evolution that maintains strategic continuity rather than real ideological change.
