The modern novel has emerged as one of the most prevalent forms of expression in today’s society, drawing on a range of references and diverse perspectives. Among the most prominent is the philosophical vision, which shapes a comprehensive human outlook on life. The novel serves as a mirror of life on paper portraying the modern individual, articulating their aspirations, and highlighting their attitudes and ways of engaging with a troubled reality and distressed selves. In our contemporary world, the essence of the novel is defined by its ability to capture the human being’s relationship with existence and their interaction with it in the quest for the meaning of life a meaning that cannot be grasped in isolation from the meaning of death. Writing about death in the novel remains a complex and sensitive topic, despite the abundance of literature on it especially when that death takes the form of suicide, that is, a death sought and desired by the self. This is the subject we will examine in the following pages through A Perfect Day to Die by Samir Kassimi.
