The Elite And Its Integrationist Approach In Algeria (1900-1919)

Authors : Sammari Boubaker . Santoudji Mouhamed Nadjib .

Abstract

The study of the assimilationist elite in Algeria does not merely aim to understand a limited political movement, but rather serves as an entry point for grasping the profound transformations that reshaped Algerian national consciousness. It reflects the complex interactions between culture and politics, as well as between reform and revolution, within an oppressive colonial context. During the French occupation of Algeria (1830–1962), the country experienced radical changes that affected all its political, social, cultural, and religious structures. These transformations were the result of colonial policies that sought to impose a new reality based on the exclusion of traditional elites, the dismantling of Algerian societal foundations, and the replacement of these with a new sociological model inspired by the French system.
