The Impact Of Higher Education On Economic Development In Algeria: A Regression Analysis Study

Authors : عباس نوال .

Abstract

In the contemporary global knowledge economy, higher education has assumed an increasingly significant role in terms of both quantity and quality. This growing importance can be attributed to its perceived role as a driver of economic development through the development of human capital and the promotion of innovation. Nevertheless, the efficacy of this approach in developing countries remains a subject of debate. The present study employs a multiple linear regression model to analyse the relationship between higher education and economic growth in Algeria during the period 2001–2020. The following indicators are taken into account: gross domestic product, higher education teachers, resident patent applications, and non-resident patent applications. The findings of the study indicate a positive effect of higher education on economic development according to the F-test. The findings indicate that the impact of higher education on economic development is not unidirectional; rather, it is contingent on the indicator employed.
