2002. Abstract The massacres of 8th May 1945, are regarded as a dangerous violation and heinous crimes were committed against the Algerian people. They represent a pivotal moment in Algeria’s history as french colonial forces brutally suppressed peaceful protests calling for independence resulting in the martyrdom of more than 45 thousand Algerians. these events combined both human tragedy and the emergence of a national liberation movement, and they can also be examined through international legal framework. the importance of this study lies in its attempt to bridge the historical and legal dimensions in order to understand how these events evolved from a humanitarian catastrophe into a revolutionary turning point. The research adopts historical, descriptive, and analytical methods, relying on academic references to interpret the events and link them to international law. The massacres ultimately became the spark that ignited the Algerian Revolution. From a legal perspective, these massacres have been classified as acts of genocide and crimes against humanity, as they deliberately targeted civilians based on their national identity, in blatant violation of international law particularly the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the crime of Genocide of 9 December 1948, which entered into force in 1951, and the Rome Statute of 17 July 1998, which came into effect in 2002
