The Concept Of Work And Entrepreneurship: Theoretical Framework And Dimensions In The Contemporary Economy

Authors : Meriem Guedid .

Abstract

In the contemporary economy, work and entrepreneurship are central drivers of socioeconomic development. Work is not only a means of earning income; it also enables self-realization, learning, and civic participation. Entrepreneurship powers innovation, renewal, and employment by creating new ventures and recombining resources. This article develops an integrative framework that draws on institutional economics, capability theory, organizational studies, and civil society research. It clarifies mechanisms linking work and entrepreneurship: skill formation, opportunity recognition, resource mobilization, experimentation, diffusion, and feedback through financial and network ecosystems. The analysis situates these mechanisms within current market conditions marked by digital platforms, informality, global value chains, and ecological transition. It foregrounds equity for youth, women, and marginalized groups, and examines tensions between growth and decent work, risk and protection, agency and collective capacity, scale and community. Policy implications concern education, social protection, competition policy, and inclusive finance, alongside research priorities on job quality and innovation.
