الملخص
This study, titled “The Maqāṣid-Based Methodology in the Thought of Imām al-Ghazālī and Imām al-Ṭūfī: A Foundational and Applied Study,” investigates the theory of Maqāṣid (the higher objectives of Islamic law) within the broader debate on whether Maqāṣid are being reactivated and modernized or neglected and sidelined. The research addresses two central questions: What is the Maqāṣid-based methodology according to both scholars? And how did each of them apply this methodology? Building on these questions, the study explores further inquiries: What is the definition of a Maqāṣid-based method? What are its main components in the works of both scholars? And what comprehensive religious objectives did each scholar articulate? Through an initial exploratory approach, the study proposes several hypotheses: that the concept of a Maqāṣid-based method can be clearly defined, that both Imām al-Ghazālī and Imām al-Ṭūfī employed a discernible Maqāṣid methodology, and that each developed a set of overarching religious objectives within their legal and ethical frameworks. The research employs multiple methodologies—inductive, descriptive, deductive, and comparative—to analyze the thought of these two eminent scholars and demonstrate how their Maqāṣid approaches contribute to an authentic model for legal renewal
