This study examines British policy toward Palestine during the Mandate period, aiming to assess its role in escalating the Arab–Jewish conflict, with a particular focus on its failure to achieve a fair settlement that could contribute to regional stability. The central research question posed is: To what extent did British policies contribute to the failure of settlement efforts and the intensification of Arab–Jewish confrontation during the twentieth century? The study adopts a historical-analytical approach, based on examining British policies and analyzing the interactions of key actors, including the Jewish community in Palestine (Yishuv), Palestinian factions, and neighboring Arab states. The findings indicate that Britain failed to maintain a balanced commitment toward both sides, which fueled resentment against its administration and hindered the development of a comprehensive political solution. This failure was further exacerbated by conflicting interests and ambitions among various actors, including the rise of the Zionist movement, internal Palestinian divisions, and regional interventions. The study recommends revisiting historical international policies—particularly those of Britain—while emphasizing the need to build equitable settlements rooted in historical and legitimate rights, to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past in addressing modern conflicts.
