This study examines the rhetorical purposes behind the alternation between two types of verbs—one in the passive voice (where the doer is not mentioned) and the other in the active voice (where the doer is explicitly mentioned)—within the same context in the Holy Qur’an. This investigation is conducted regardless of the order of appearance of these verbs in the sentence (whether one precedes the other) and irrespective of whether they share the same lexical root or differ in that regard. The aim is to uncover the rhetorical implications and intended meanings conveyed through this alternation, a striking phenomenon that recurs throughout various locations in the Qur’an. To achieve its goals, the study adopts a descriptive approach supplemented by analytical tools. One of its key findings is that the use of both types of verbs within the same context serves specific rhetorical and semantic purposes unique to each form.
