Abstract: This study seeks to approach African theater from a sociocultural perspective, examining its structure and function by connecting it to the transformations experienced by African societies, where elements of ritual and celebration began to transform into conscious theatrical performances presented to audiences as African societies developed and education and contact with Western culture emerged. However, the collective, symbolic, and interactive character of African theater remained connected to its ritual roots. From this, the study raises the question of how African theater, in its traditional and contemporary manifestations, contributes to shaping and developing cultural and social life in African societies through its sociological and cultural dimensions in a historical context.
