The objective of this paper is to study, for the MENA region, the relationship between renewable energy adoption and climate change by incorporating digital transformation as a moderating element between 1990 and 2021. We utilize panel cointegration methods to explicitly account for the possible issue of cross-sectional dependency. The EKC hypothesis is rejected since these countries have not yet met the GDP threshold. Moreover, Data shows that renewable energy sources do not have a direct impact on CO2 emissions. However, trade, information and communications technology, and foreign direct investment have a negative impact on the environment. However, the combination of renewable energy and the digital shift can reduce CO2 emissions. Therefore, to reduce the effects of climate change, policy makers should jointly implement both energy and digital transitions.
