Civilization is a module based on history, dates, and events. Over the past years, at Badji Mokhtar University, it has been observed that the majority of master's students prefer the ‘language sciences’ option with the only reason to avoid the ‘literature and civilization’ option. In addition, Civilization teachers are always complaining about the lack of interest of their students. This raised our curiosity to investigate the types of challenges encountered by the civilization teachers. A questionnaire was administered to Civilization teachers at Badji Mokhtar University- Annaba. Seven teachers answered the questionnaire. The obtained results showed that the nature of the module itself is challenging as teachers affirmed that the content is difficult, lengthy and contains difficult terminology. Besides, some challenges are related to students’ attitudes and motivation; while others are related to the teaching approaches and strategies of the content of this module. Therefore, it is necessary to raise civilization teachers’ awareness of these challenges in addition to the importance of modifying their teaching approach.
