Globalization And The Environment: A Critical Analysis Through The Algerian Lens

Authors : Dorbane Nadia . Hachemi Naima .

Abstract

Abstract: This article aims to explore the impacts of globalization on the environment, using the Algerian case as a reference. Globalization has ambivalent repercussions on the environment. The question asked here is whether Algeria’s openness to international trade is an opportunity or a threat to the environment. In light of macroeconomic indicators, the country’s environmental situation has continuously deteriorated since the 1990s—a period marked by trade liberalization under the impetus of the IMF. Our empirical study concludes that this situation is explained, among other factors, by the inadequacy of the environmental public policy implemented.
