Ghazal (love poetry) is an ancient poetic theme based on sight, relying on the perception of beauty and fascination with it. It uses the insightful eye as a means of communication and a language of dialogue. Many sighted lovers have excelled in describing dark, enchanting eyes and the passion and longing they evoke, along with the magic and charm they inspire. But what about blind poets? What is the value of their love poetry? Can blindness prevent a visually impaired poet from composing ghazal and expressing romantic emotions? What significance does the ghazal of blind poets hold in both classical and modern Arabic poetry? This research paper attempts to explain the phenomenon of ghazal among blind poets in general, with a specific focus on the Yemeni poet Abdullah Al-Baradouni. It seeks to uncover the motives behind love poetry in this group of poets and highlight the image of women as lovers and beloveds in Al-Baradouni’s poetry by analyzing selected ghazal verses.
