The Modern And Contemporary History Of Algeria In The German Orientalists Writings

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the importance of German orientalists in writing the history of Algeria. First, we presented a brief overview of the German orientalism roots and the most important German orientalists who contributed to write the Arab and Islamic history in general and Algerian history in particular. Then we discussed the most important German travellers who visited Algeria and wrote about it through the book "Algeria in the Writings of German Travellers (1830 - 1855)" by Abu al-Eid Dodo. We also tried to highlight the importance of these trips in embodying the image of the other and the extent to which this image meets the Algerian reality or not. Keywords: Orientalism.
