The current descriptive paper attempts to address the following question: Why are Algerian graduate students such poor researchers whose theses seethe with inconsistencies and unethical practices of all kinds? It is suggested that these deficiencies are occurred by poor training in research methodology and academic writing, poor supervision, L1 interference, and lack of research skills. On the theoretical level, graduate students have been exposed to a wealth of information, but on the practical level, they turn out to be helpless and inadequate. It is claimed throughout that a needs analysis, teacher awareness, and provision of updated, appealing (re)sources need necessarily be reconsidered prior to any introduction of innovation in the research methodology course in order to come to the assistance of an otherwise disenchanted graduate student community.
