Self-compassion Levels In Women Subjected To Spousal Abuse: A Clinical Case Study

Authors : Hadj Lakehal Radhia .

Abstract

This study examines the dimensions of self-compassion among women experiencing spousal abuse, employing a clinical approach. Focusing on a single case study from Biskra, Algeria, the study employs multiple clinical interviews and two psychometrically robust instruments: the Spousal Abuse Scale by Faten Joudi (2022) and Neff’s Short Self-Compassion Scale (2003), adapted by the researcher to the Algerian context in 2023. Findings indicate that the subject experiences high spousal abuse across multiple domains, including psychological, physical, economic, verbal, and sexual abuse. Correspondingly, the subject exhibits low levels of self-compassion, particularly in dimensions such as self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness, with moderate scores in self-judgment and cognitive alertness.
