Abstract: The study aimed to explore the key ethical issues arising from the use of AI in the auditing profession and provide insights into how auditors can overcome these challenges and risks. The study concluded that the use of AI in the auditing profession is a fundamental development, but it also poses ethical risks, most notably algorithmic bias, loss of transparency, and over-reliance on AI, in addition to challenges associated with maintaining professional skepticism, ensuring accountability, and compliance with the profession’s ethical values, which requires ethical governance. Some professional bodies have focused on the fact that dealing with the ethical challenges of AI in auditing requires a multi-faceted approach, including ensuring that AI algorithms are trained on unbiased and representative data, disclosing the use of AI in audits to stakeholders, and providing explanations for AI-based audit results, while others have stressed the importance of not impairing the auditor’s professional judgment due to AI. However, there is still a gap regarding the development of clear guidelines and best practices that govern how auditors use AI in an ethical and responsible manner.
